日進市で、主に日進西中学校の生徒を中心に、生徒みずから主体性を持って学び、自分のペースで勉強できる、ICTを活用した自立学習による学びの場を提供している、セルモ日進西小学校前教室　塾長の西尾です。

I’m Nishio, the head of the Selmo Nisshin Nishi Elementary School Classroom, located in Nisshin City. Our focus is on providing a learning space primarily for students from Nisshin Nishi Junior High School, where they can take initiative in their studies, learn at their own pace, and utilize ICT for independent learning.

Thursday Is English Conversation Day! – Talking About the Music Test –

一昨年11月から毎週木曜日に日進ベタニヤ教会で行われている英会話教室に通っています。
I’ve been attending an English conversation class held every Thursday at Nisshin Bethany Church since November the year before last.

今日のサナ先生のファッションは80年代を感じさせるかっこ良さがありました！
Sanna’s outfit today had a cool, 80s-inspired vibe!

サナ先生曰く、80年代のファッションは1800年代の宮廷スタイルのリバイバルだそうですね。
Sanna told us that 80s fashion was inspired by a revival of 19th-century court style.

ファッションは、時代背景にとっても影響されますね。例えば、80年代は世界中が好景気でとっても明るく華やかな時代だったので、ファッションも宮廷スタイルのゴージャスな感じが流行ったのだと思います。

Fashion is always shaped by the times we live in. For example, the 1980s were a bright and prosperous era around the world, so it makes sense that glamorous, court-inspired styles became popular.

そういう意味では、音楽も同じですね。モネなど絵画の印象派が流行った時代、音楽でもラヴェルのような印象派の音楽が生まれました。
In that sense, music is the same. During the period when Impressionist painting—like Monet’s—became popular, Impressionist music also emerged, with composers such as Ravel.

昨日記事にした、音楽のテストの件をサナに話ししてみたら、単なる”ペーパテストでの賢さ”を図るテストは残念だよねって。
When I told Sanna about the music test I wrote about yesterday, she said it’s a bit disappointing when a test only measures “book smarts.”

私が書いたような音楽を聴いてからのクイズ形式のテストもいいし、音楽を聴いた上でどう感じたかを説明させるテストもいいよねと。
She told me that a quiz-style test after listening to music would be fun, and that it’d be even better to have students listen and then describe how the music made them feel.

採点が大変かもしれないけど、せっかく音楽のテストなんだから、こうした「音楽を聴いた」上で、誰のどんな曲かを答えたり、その曲の持つ特徴だったり、印象だったりを答えるテストをしたら、より多様な「音楽」に触れる機会が触れるなと思いましたね。
Grading it might be tough, but because it’s a music test, I think it would be wonderful if students could listen to a piece first and then talk about who composed it, what makes the music special, or how it felt to them. That kind of approach would give them a chance to explore a broader world of music.

それに、なぜこんな音楽の表現を使ったかを考えると、その音楽が生まれた時代や時代背景についても学べるし、作曲者の置かれた立場や、音楽が表したかったなにかについても学びたくなるだろうなと思いました。
And when they think about why the music uses certain expressions, they can also discover the era it was born in, the cultural background, and even the composer’s personal circumstances. I feel like it would naturally make them curious about what the music was trying to express.

最後に、サナが有名なポップスを短調に変えたバージョンが面白いよと紹介してくれました。
And finally, Sanna introduced us to something really fun: famous pop songs rewritten in a minor key. They sound completely different and super interesting!

これは、調がちがうと同じ音楽でもこんなにも受ける印象が変わる（長調：明るく楽しい、短調：暗く悲しい）というのがわかるいいサンプルでしたね。
It really showed how a simple change in key can shift the entire mood of a song — major keys make it bright and cheerful, while minor keys give it a darker, more melancholic feel.

サナが紹介してくれた短調に変換された有名曲の一つ「カントリーロード」です。途中ロック調の短調になるのも面白いですよ。
One of the tracks Sanna showed me was a minor-key version of “Country Roads.” There’s a section where it unexpectedly switches into a rock-style minor sound, and it’s super cool.
