日進市で、主に日進西中学校の生徒を中心に、生徒みずから主体性を持って学び、自分のペースで勉強できる、ICTを活用した自立学習による学びの場を提供している、セルモ日進西小学校前教室 塾長の西尾です。
I’m Nishio, the head of the Selmo Nisshin Nishi Elementary School Classroom, located in Nisshin City. Our focus is on providing a learning space primarily for students from Nisshin Nishi Junior High School, where they can take initiative in their studies, learn at their own pace, and utilize ICT for independent learning.

Thursday is English Conversation Day! – This week’s lesson was at such a nice café! –
一昨年11月から毎週木曜日に日進ベタニヤ教会で行われている英会話教室に通っています。
I’ve been attending an English conversation class held every Thursday at Nisshin Bethany Church since November the year before last.
今日の英会話は田んぼの真ん中にある素敵なカフェでのレッスンでした。
Today’s English conversation lesson was at a lovely café right in the middle of the rice fields.
日進市は田舎なのでこうした田んぼがいたるところにありますね。
Nisshin is pretty rural, so you can find rice fields just about everywhere.
今日お邪魔したのはこちらの「HAJIME COFFEE」です。
Today we visited a cozy café called “HAJIME COFFEE.”

It’s a café with such a relaxed atmosphere, and I really enjoyed having an easygoing English conversation there!
ちょうど、CupとMugの違いについてという英語のエッセイを、生徒が持ってきた過去問で読んだばかりだったので簡単に紹介しました。
Funny enough, I had just read a past exam essay about the difference between a cup and a mug, so I gave a short explanation.
CupとMugは器の形の違いだけの意味ではなく、紅茶をCupでのむ上流階級と、Mugでビールを飲む労働階級の違いのニュアンスも含んでいたりします。
The difference between a cup and a mug isn’t just about their shape. A cup often carries the nuance of the upper class enjoying tea, while a mug can suggest the working class drinking beer.
なので、a cup of tea とはいっても、a mug of tea という言い方はほとんどされません。朝や昼に、お客さんと一緒に上品に紅茶を飲むシーンを連想させるCupと、一人でがぶ飲みするイメージのMugの違いを感じますね。
That’s why we say “a cup of tea” but almost never “a mug of tea.” A cup makes you picture a classy tea time with guests in the morning or afternoon, while a mug feels more like drinking something all by yourself in a hearty way.
今日は、素敵なカフェで素敵なCupでおいしいコーヒーを頂きながら、楽しく英会話ができました！
