木曜は英会話の日！　～夏休みで中断していた英会話も今日から再開です～

日進市で、主に日進西中学校の生徒を中心に、生徒みずから主体性を持って学び、自分のペースで勉強できる、ICTを活用した自立学習による学びの場を提供している、セルモ日進西小学校前教室　塾長の西尾です。

I’m Nishio, the head of the Selmo Nisshin Nishi Elementary School Classroom, located in Nisshin City. Our focus is on providing a learning space primarily for students from Nisshin Nishi Junior High School, where they can take initiative in their studies, learn at their own pace, and utilize ICT for independent learning.

木曜は英会話の日！　～夏休みで中断していた英会話も今日から再開です～
Thursday is English conversation day　~After a summer break, our English lessons are back starting today! ~

一昨年11月から毎週木曜日に日進ベタニヤ教会で行われている英会話教室に通っています。
I’ve been attending an English conversation class held every Thursday at Nisshin Bethany Church since November the year before last.

日本の夏休みにあわせてスウェーデンに帰省していたサナ先生が先日帰国したので今日から英会話教室も再開です。
Since Ms. Sanna just got back from spending the summer break in Sweden, our English conversation class is starting up again today!

スウェーデンも、毎日25℃を超える記録的な猛暑だったようです。北極圏に近い地域でこの気温はやはり異常ですね。
It seems Sweden was also hit by record-breaking heat this summer, with temperatures over 25°C every day. For a region so close to the Arctic, that’s definitely unusual.

スウェーデンの近況を質問する際、移民の問題がどうなったか聞いてみたところ、彼女が言うには政策を転換して社会になじめなかった移民には給付金を渡して国から出て行ってもらう方向に変わったとのことでした。
When I asked her about the current situation in Sweden, especially regarding immigration, she said that the government has shifted its policy. Immigrants who haven’t been able to integrate into society are now being offered benefits to leave the country.

日本も今、技能実習生という名目で、低賃金で労働力を確保していますが、社会になじめない移民者が増えるようであれば、こうした政策を早めに切り替える必要があるかも知れないですね。
In Japan, too, labor has been secured under the “technical intern training” system, which often means low wages. But if more immigrants find it difficult to adapt to society, maybe it’s time for Japan to start rethinking these policies a little earlier.

また、日本ではオーバーツーリズムの問題も大きくなってきているので、旅行者むけに高い価格を設定する二重価格制度の導入も検討されています。
In Japan, the issue of overtourism has also been growing, and there are even discussions about introducing a dual pricing system, where higher prices would be set for travelers.

このあたりの話題は、名古屋外国語大学を目指す塾生にも是非聴いて欲しい内容でした。
These are exactly the kinds of topics I’d love for my students aiming for Nagoya University of Foreign Studies to hear about.

なぜなら、大学側からの要求で志望理由書の中で「国内外の国際時事に関する具体的な事象を題材に自らの考えを述べる」必要があるからです。
That’s because the university requires applicants to discuss their own ideas on specific international issues, both domestic and global, in their statements of purpose.

このあたりは、塾で生徒に今日はこんなトピックで話をしたから参考にしてねと伝えました。
I also told my students at my learning space, “Today we talked about this kind of topic, so keep it in mind as a reference.”

外国語大学を狙っている彼女なので、今度はリアルにこの英会話教室に参加してもらいたいなと思っています。
Since she’s aiming for a foreign language university, I’d love for her to actually come and join our English conversation class sometime.
