I’m Nishio, the head of the Selmo Nisshin Nishi Elementary School Classroom, located in Nisshin City. Our focus is on providing a learning space primarily for students from Nisshin Nishi Junior High School, where they can take initiative in their studies, learn at their own pace, and utilize ICT for independent learning.

木曜は英会話の日！　～バブル時代のテーマパークについて～
Thursday is English conversation day　~ Theme Parks from the Bubble Era ~

一昨年11月から毎週木曜日に日進ベタニヤ教会で行われている英会話教室に通っています。
I’ve been attending an English conversation class held every Thursday at Nisshin Bethany Church since November the year before last.

 

今日の英会話はバブル時代のアクティビティから、当時数多くつくられたテーマパークについてのお話になりました。
Today’s English conversation lesson revolved around activities from the Bubble Era, particularly the many theme parks that were built during that time.

 

バブル時代は、ゴルフに始まり多くのスポーツアクティビティが流行しました。
During the Bubble Era, golf was just the beginning—many sports activities became popular.

 

例えば、スキーやスキューバダイビング、ウインドサーフィンなどなど
For example, skiing, scuba diving, windsurfing, and many more.

 

私も当時は、ゴルフやスキーはよく楽しんでいましたね。
I also enjoyed golf and skiing quite often during that time.

 

また、東京ディズニーランドの大ヒットを受け、日本中に数多くのテーマパークが計画され、実際に多くのテーマパークが開業しました。

Additionally, following the massive success of Tokyo Disneyland, numerous theme parks were planned across Japan, and many of them actually opened.

 

例えば、九州のスペースワールドや四国のレオマワールド、倉敷の倉敷チボリ公園、三重の志摩スペイン村など。
For example, Space World in Kyushu, Reoma World in Shikoku, Kurashiki Tivoli Park in Kurashiki, and Shima Spain Village in Mie.

そのうちいくつはは今でも残っているものの多くはバブル崩壊や、コロナなどの影響で閉園してしまいましたね。
Some of them still remain today, but many have closed due to the collapse of the Bubble Economy, the impact of COVID-19, and other factors.

 

また、長続きできなかったテーマパークは、建物などはマネできても、オリジナルの文化や空気感など本物のもつ”なにか”が足りなかったのではないかと思います。
I believe that the theme parks that didn’t last long, despite being able to replicate buildings and structures, lacked the authentic culture, atmosphere, and that special “something” that makes the original truly unique.

 

それにしても、日本人は○○村といった海外風のテーマパークが大好きですね（笑）
That being said, Japanese people really love foreign-themed parks with names like “○○ Village” (lol).
